PackPro Software Training Course

Target Audience

This course is targeted at engineers who are currently using, or intend to use, the PackPro software in their projects.

Participants should have all of the following:

  • Technical background
  • Understanding of common oilfield terminology
  • Grasp of the fundamental concepts of drilling and completing a well
  • Basic understanding of sand control operations (completion/pumping)

This course provides practical sand control design and evaluation experience using the DuneFront PackPro software suite, which gives participants the opportunity to put into practice what they learn. Previous experience with PackPro is not required but participants should follow the steps below to install the software before attending the course:

  • Complete the demo request form on the DuneFront website (
  • Download the installation file using the link provided by email.
  • Install the software on your computer.
  • A training license will be issued to each participant for the duration of the course.

For any problems or questions regarding the download or installation of the PackPro software, please contact

Course Description

This course introduces the PackPro software along with its various features and details the process of simulating, evaluating and optimizing sand control completions. Participants will get practical experience with the software through a number of demo files and case studies so as to then be able to use it in their own projects.

Day 1 – Simulation

  • Simulate-Evaluate-Optimize – Introduce the PackPro software and review its core concept of Simulate-Evaluate-Optimize, which defines the application, use and benefit of the software.
  • Interface and Inputs Overview – Highlight PackPro’s high-level interface and navigation features then review the simulate input screens to identify the data required when building a new file for a well.
  • Alpha/Beta Guided Example – Participants will build an alpha/beta file under guidance from the instructor to get first-hand experience with creating and executing simulations in PackPro.
  • Results Overview – Review the results screens and related features including creating and interacting with charts, using scenarios and exporting data.
  • Shunt Tube Project – Participants will be given data for a well to be completed with shunt tube technology for which they will have to set up and execute a simulation themselves.

Day 2 – Evaluation and Optimization

  • Introduction to Gauge Data Analysis – Discuss the basic theory and application of downhole gauge data analysis, including both pressure and temperature, in the evaluation of gravel packs.
  • PackPro Evaluate Introduction – Introduce and review PackPro’s evaluate module, including data importing and time-shifting, which will be used to perform detailed post-job data evaluation.
  • Practical Project – Participants will be given data sets to import, time-shift and analyze using the PackPro software.
  • PackPro Optimize Introduction – Introduction to PackPro’s optimize module which uses the evaluation data to calibrate the engineering model for improved accuracy.
  • Participant Feedback – Open discussion between all participants and instructors to gather feedback and comments for continuously improving the course.
