SPE Sand Management Workshop and Training Course in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Published On : 02/05/2016

Philip and Samyak attended the “SPE Sand Management - Meeting the Industry's Immediate and Long-term Needs” workshop held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 25-26 April 2016. Philip chaired the workshop and worked closely with a committee of industry experts to ensure it provided a platform for the open review and discussion of sand management practices and technology, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. It was attended by 67 participants from 30 organisations and 14 countries with feedback being very positive and reaffirming the continued importance of sand management even under the current environment.

Samyak also made a presentation on modeling and evaluation of gravel pack treatments entitled “Engineering Gravel Packs for Reliability” which summarised work performed jointly between DuneFront and Shell. This will be published in more detail as a full SPE Paper and presented at the 2016 Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) in September so keep a look out for it!

Alongside the workshop, DuneFront delivered a 2-day “Introduction to Sand Control” training course which was taught by Samyak and attended by 13 participants from both operators and service companies. The course covered fundamental sand control principles and introduced the attendees to the relative pros and cons of the various techniques used in the industry. It was very well received and we look forward to working again with SPE.

The workshop was a great opportunity to both meet and learn from the experience of the global sand control community so we hope to see you at the next one!
